A Little Bit About Guatemalan Beauty

PART ONE

I have had my blog for about two years now. It first started in a different place, then I moved it to WordPress. Initially I created it  just to share what I loved and what I hated. It finally took form and it became a place to talk about society and its messed up ways, mostly about my beautiful Guatemala and my journey in United States as a new comer. Once in a while I’d include a note about the “entertainment world” in Guatemala, such as interviews with famous people down there: Athletes, beauty queens, models, singers, etc.  Who I had ties with from my modeling days.

I got to a point in which I had a good crowd following me. I moved it to WordPress after a while, but let’s just say that not everyone moved with me.  It was then when I decided that the people who cared about the showbiz and the ones that cared about social problems, were two different kinds; so I separated it into two blogs. That’s how Belleza Guatemalteca became “the serious” one and Guatemalan Beauty the tabloid like blog. I noticed how I kept losing readers in Belleza, so I shut it down and it stayed there, just empty for months.  Meanwhile, Guatemalan Beauty just kept on growing. I never thought enough people cared about those things over there, apparently they do.  I was gettin 10,000 hits a week, which in my world’s a big number and in some other weeks was waaaay more than that.

PART TWO

I got into Photography in January 08, but didn’t really start my learning process until March. That’s when for the first time I held in my hands something beyond a point and shoot. It was scary.  I went to the Zoo and the Aquarium to practice, needless to say my photos were horrific. The exposure was all messed up, I didn’t know how to use the camera and when I found out what each “thingy” did, I still wasn’t able to quite figure out why my pictures looked ugly and plain    Soon after, I did a photoshoot with one of my coworkers. Even though I didn’t know what I was doing, I was able to rescue some shots, but most of them were a waste.

Now, I am much better, definitely. But, there’s still room for improvement. I am a perfectionist, so I really hope it will come handy :) I want to improve also my processing abilities. One thing is for sure, I am not ashamed of my shots anymore ;)

I have been very enthusiastic about Photography now, a lot more.  To the point that I am uploading pictures almost daily to my flickr account. I guess part of it is the fact that I have more equipment to work with. Little by little I have been getting more and more. I started with my Canon 40D with the 28-135mm Zoom Lens. A month later, I got the awesome (and really cheap) 50mm Canon Lens (really nice bokeh).  Third item was a so needed tripod, Slik Pro 400DX. I stopped there for a while, but just a few days ago I got the 100mm Canon Macro Lens. For my luck, I have been really busy and I intended to play with it today and go bug hunting. Guess what happened? It rained! It stopped until it was dark :’(

PART THREE

Today, October 6th 2008; I moved the gossip blog to Belleza Guatemalteca and now ladies and gentlemen, Guatemalan Beauty is going to be dedicated to my passion, PHOTOGRAPHY. I really hope it will be as active as the other one is. I hope you’ll find interesting subjects here, don’t fear to speak your mind, I am a tough girl, I can take it :)   Criticism is the door to improvement.

I think it will take a WHILE for this blog to pick up and become something big. Maybe it never will, who knows, but I’ll still give it a try :)
