My Whereabouts

I got sick (a really bad cold) but I have been resting a lot and taking medecine, which allowed me to recover very quickly.  I’m still sick, but feeling a lot better already. I sort of have left this blog all forgotten, but here I am again.

Not long ago I had a photoshoot with a client. Here are some of the shots:

By the way, does anyone know an excellent quality printing lab? I am very new to this and have no clue where to print.

And remember, if you’ve got any questions just leave your comment/question here and check back soon, because I’ll post the answer here for everyone else to see :D

I’ve been in such creative mode lately. So many things going through my head that I can’t even begin to do it all. A few days ago, those ideas became a bit clear and decided I wanted to do some beauty shots. Coincidentally, a makeup artist contacted me around the same time, with a similar idea. We paired up and got this shoot going.

I am a very nocturnal person by all means. I should live in Europe or something. I am awake when everyone else is asleep and viceversa. You will often find me online at 6am or so :o and very much asleep at 3pm, lol.

Tonight I went to a birthday party and allowed myself to have a drink, a Buttery Nipple; seriously, someone has too much time on their hands to come up with these names. Anyway, very tasty Nipple I shall say ;) It was extremely cold for my taste. I had on pants, coat, hat, gloves, long boots and I was stilly cold =/  Sunny Florida (as I call it) is still sunny, but very cold at the same time.

I recently bought the remote control for my Canon 40D. It was very cheap (price wise) and have nothing bad to say about it. The brandname’s Satechi if you are interested in acquiring one. I tested it last night and here’s the first shot achieved with it.

And next, a song from 3 of my fave disk jockeys, which’s very suitable to my lifestyle I guess you could say :|

The Many Faces of Photoshop

•October 20, 2008 • 2 Comments

Now a days you can’t really call yourself a Photographer without any PS skills. Sure, you can hire someone else to do the dirty work, but you need it non the less. I have seen the work of tons of Photographers who don’t use this amazing tool and let me tell you, THEY SO NEED IT.

Recently I started developing my own actions and I tested them a bit, look what I got*:

Muted Tones

 Punch

 Warm

 Sepia

 Blue

*Just note that the eye colour has nothing to do with the actions, the tonality, the tint, etc. does.

A Little Bit About Guatemalan Beauty

•October 6, 2008 • 5 Comments

PART ONE

I have had my blog for about two years now. It first started in a different place, then I moved it to WordPress. Initially I created it  just to share what I loved and what I hated. It finally took form and it became a place to talk about society and its messed up ways, mostly about my beautiful Guatemala and my journey in United States as a new comer. Once in a while I’d include a note about the “entertainment world” in Guatemala, such as interviews with famous people down there: Athletes, beauty queens, models, singers, etc.  Who I had ties with from my modeling days.

I got to a point in which I had a good crowd following me. I moved it to WordPress after a while, but let’s just say that not everyone moved with me.  It was then when I decided that the people who cared about the showbiz and the ones that cared about social problems, were two different kinds; so I separated it into two blogs. That’s how Belleza Guatemalteca became “the serious” one and Guatemalan Beauty the tabloid like blog. I noticed how I kept losing readers in Belleza, so I shut it down and it stayed there, just empty for months.  Meanwhile, Guatemalan Beauty just kept on growing. I never thought enough people cared about those things over there, apparently they do.  I was gettin 10,000 hits a week, which in my world’s a big number and in some other weeks was waaaay more than that.

PART TWO

I got into Photography in January 08, but didn’t really start my learning process until March. That’s when for the first time I held in my hands something beyond a point and shoot. It was scary.  I went to the Zoo and the Aquarium to practice, needless to say my photos were horrific. The exposure was all messed up, I didn’t know how to use the camera and when I found out what each “thingy” did, I still wasn’t able to quite figure out why my pictures looked ugly and plain    Soon after, I did a photoshoot with one of my coworkers. Even though I didn’t know what I was doing, I was able to rescue some shots, but most of them were a waste.

Now, I am much better, definitely. But, there’s still room for improvement. I am a perfectionist, so I really hope it will come handy :) I want to improve also my processing abilities. One thing is for sure, I am not ashamed of my shots anymore ;)

I have been very enthusiastic about Photography now, a lot more.  To the point that I am uploading pictures almost daily to my flickr account. I guess part of it is the fact that I have more equipment to work with. Little by little I have been getting more and more. I started with my Canon 40D with the 28-135mm Zoom Lens. A month later, I got the awesome (and really cheap) 50mm Canon Lens (really nice bokeh).  Third item was a so needed tripod, Slik Pro 400DX. I stopped there for a while, but just a few days ago I got the 100mm Canon Macro Lens. For my luck, I have been really busy and I intended to play with it today and go bug hunting. Guess what happened? It rained! It stopped until it was dark :’(

PART THREE

Today, October 6th 2008; I moved the gossip blog to Belleza Guatemalteca and now ladies and gentlemen, Guatemalan Beauty is going to be dedicated to my passion, PHOTOGRAPHY. I really hope it will be as active as the other one is. I hope you’ll find interesting subjects here, don’t fear to speak your mind, I am a tough girl, I can take it :)   Criticism is the door to improvement.
